The scoop: ButterBurgers are headed to Lakeland. Culver’s, the Wisconsin chain known for ButterBurgers and frozen custard, has filed a site plan for a restaurant in the Ashmont development at Canada Road and Davies Plantation Road. The City of Lakeland confirmed it received the application, Action News 5 reported Oct. 22.

First of its kind around here: It would be the chain’s first Memphis-area location, according to Ashmont developer Vince Smith, as reported by The Commercial Appeal.

When could it open? Not tomorrow. Here’s the timeline so far:

  • November: The application goes to Lakeland’s Municipal Planning Commission, per the city. The commission’s next regular meeting is Thursday, Nov. 12, at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall, 10001 Highway 70, per the city’s meeting calendar. The agenda isn’t posted yet.
  • January: A city official told WKIM-FM that construction is set to start next January.
  • Opening: No date announced yet.

What the mayor says: “We have worked really hard to create an environment that attracts national names; it’s an exciting day for such a well liked brand to choose Lakeland,” Mayor Josh Roman told WKIM-FM.

About Ashmont: It’s a 100-acre mixed-use development under construction at Canada Road and East Davies Plantation Road. The Commercial Appeal reports that an unnamed grocery store is also being planned for the site.

What’s next: Watch for the Nov. 12 Planning Commission agenda on the city’s CivicClerk portal. We’ll read the site plan when it posts.
